How to track laptops and other assets

Add an asset, lend it to someone, and return it when they give it back.

The register

Assets is the list of things the company owns and lends to people: laptops, phones, ID cards, keys. You need permission to manage assets to edit the register, and permission to lend assets to hand one out. The product page is asset management software.

Assigned assets also show on the employee profile, under Profile, then Assets, when your role can see that section.

Add an asset

  1. Open Assets and choose New. The form is Create Asset.
  2. Edit opens Update Asset if the serial number or name was wrong.
  3. Delete removes an item you added by mistake. Do not delete something a person still holds; return it first so the history stays honest.

Lend and return

  1. On the asset, choose Lend. The window is Lend Asset. Pick the employee and confirm.
  2. When they give it back, choose Return. The window is Return Asset.

Cancel closes either window without saving. An offboarding checklist can point someone at assets, but returning the laptop is still this Lend / Return action. The checklist item does not mark itself done. See offboarding.

This is not Settings, Award

Settings, then Award is a list of award types (Enabled or Disabled) used when you record an appreciation. It does not track hardware. If you are looking for “employee of the month”, that is Appreciations. If you are looking for a laptop, stay on Assets.
